Christmas in Tivoli

For the 19th time, Tivoli opens its door for the famous Christmas market that has its beginnings back in the year 1994. By now, it has developed into a popular attraction in Copenhagen. Until the 31st of December, Tivoli expects to have had about a million visitors that came to enjoy the cosy Christmas time and experience the charming stands all around the gardens. This year, Tivoli has even added a total of 6 attractions to its already extensive list.

Last years success with the “Russian Christmas” as a theme is of course also this year’s theme. This means that the large green areal just behind the entrance will be decorated as a magic, Russian adventure city where children and those young at heart will get the opportunity to meet the (admittedly) special, Russian edition of Santa Claus. Furthermore, the city has an impressive replica of the famous Visalia-°©‐cathedral in Moscow.

But the Russian Christmas will not stand alone this year. Also other well-°©‐known Nordic Christmas traditions will fill the gardens and already at the main entrance, there will be traditional Scandinavian Christmas cosiness, idyllic wooden houses in Christmas scaffolding and a decorated Christmas tree in the middle of the large square and after all, our well-°©‐known Scandinavian Santa Claus is going to have his place of business in his very own house close to the pantomime theatre.

All the up 60 Christmas stands are close to the walking trails and offer you anything you ever might consider typically Scandinavian. Everything is thoughtfully decorated with magic Christmas lights designed by John Loring who also decorates Park Avenue when Christmas time comes closer.

As you can see, there are many good reasons to escape from everyday life to Copenhagen now where the days are shorter and colder. Buy your Christmas presents on Strøget, experience the magical Tivoli and more than a thousand Christmas trees. Most of the city’s restaurants and attractions are open during all Christmas time and let your children be fascinated with the Christmas lights and attractions while you have some good Danish herring and maybe even some traditional Christmas hot wine punch!
